Getting around

Sorrento’s public transport is easily accessible and offers visitors an efficient and economical means of enjoying the surrounding area and main attractions.

General information is provided below showing the wide of choice of services and destinations available. Links for timetables are provided but a good understanding of Italian may be required. However, timetables and advice on tickets etc., can be easily obtained from the local tourist office, ticket offices and of course your accommodation host when you arrive.

Sorrento Town Buses
Orange town buses provide a regular service, approx every 20 minutes, on four routes including Marina Piccolo (Ferry Port) to the Square thus avoiding a steep ascent or descent by foot.

Line A: Capo – Piazza Tasso – S Agnello – Piano – Meta
Line B: Marina Piccola – Piazzo Tasso – Train Station
Line C: Marina Piccola – Piazzo Tasso – S Agnello
Line D: Marina Grande: Piazza Tasso – Marina Grand

Sorrento to Massa Lubrense
Blue SITA buses provide regular services to the following locations which are worth visiting and give easy access to villages such as Capo, Nerano, Pantano and the beaches at Marina del Cantone, Puolo and Recommone. They also link up to a number of scenic walks.

Sorrento Lift to Marina Piccola and the Ferry Port
There is a lift located in the city park, next to the Cloisters, that takes visitors down to the port of Marina Piccola to catch the ferries or to relax on the beach. The full address is Piazza Francesco Saverio Gargiulo – (In the Villa Comunale).

Tickets are € 1,00 ( € 1,80 return )
For the disabled € 0,50 and free for children less than one metre height.

Sorrento to main ‘Amalfi Drive’ destinations
SITA buses provide regular services to all the main towns along the Amalfi Drive.

Sorrento – Positano – Priano – Amalfi
Amalfi – Scala – Ravello
Amalfi – Minori – Maiori – Salerno

There are additional services to other towns and villages along the Amalfi coast.

Train Services
The Circumvesuviana local line connects Sorrento to Naples with a regular service every half hour in Summer. For train enthusiasts there is a vintage train service from Naples to Sorrento.

Water Transport
From the Marina Piccola, ferries, hydrofoils and jetboats operate services to Capri, Ischia and Naples. Other services include daily Summer services to Positano, Amalfi and Salerno as well as mini cruises along the Amalfi coastline.

Ischia Transport
Two buses to be aware of are the SEPSA Circolare sinistra which goes around the island anti-clockwise and the SEPSA Circolare destra which goes clockwise. These run from the Port of Ischia approx every 30 minutes. There is a daily hydrofoil service from Sorrento to the island.

Capri Transport
Capri buses provide the following routes:
Marina Grande (Harbour) – Capri
Marina Grande – Anacapri
Capri – Anacapri
Anacapri – Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto)
These services are fairly frequent and you can also take the  funicular from the harbour up to the town of Capri. There is a regular ferry service from Sorrento to the island.

Naples Airport to Sorrento
For visitors arriving by plane there is a low cost and regular ‘Curreri’ bus link from Naples (Capodichino) Airport to and from Sorrento bus station. The journey takes about 1¼ hours, tickets are bought on the bus and the times are shown below. Before your journey please check the official site for up to date times because in the summer season extra trips are provided.

Funivia del Faito (Faito Mountain Cable Car)
An eight minute cable car ride takes you from the railway station of Castellamare di Stabia up 1100 metres to Mount Faito (1444 m) for spectacular views. Check website for times and prices.

Discounts on Travel and Site Entrance Tickets
There is a discount card available called Artecard which offers a range of reductions on some public transport and entrance fees to specified sites, events, shows and exhibitions throughout Campania.
