Swimming and Sailing

There are few sandy beaches in Sorrento itself but the private beach platforms offer excellent facilities and there are larger beaches near Massa Lubrense, Marina del Cantone, Amalfi and Positano. The coastal towns of Castellammare di Stabiá, Vico Equense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento and Sant’Agnello also have beaches.

Another alternative is to take advantage of mini cruises which sail along the Amalfi Coast and around Capri with stops for swimming and visits to Positano and Amalfi.

Boats of various sizes can also be hired for the day to allow visitors to explore the hidden coves and beaches.

The sea around Sorrento is in a protected marine area, Marina di Punta Campanella Natural, and offers an excellent environment for snorkeling and diving. Authorised diving schools can provide the necessary supervision and equipment for visitors.

If you would like to explore underwater ruins instead of reefs then you could dive at the Baia Underwater Archaeological Park and Gaiola Underwater Park which are located west of Naples.
